When the temporary arrives… A CHECKLIST
- Welcome the temporary and provide a brief orientation about your company.
- Introduce the temporary to the supervisor and others, as appropriate. Refer to the temporary by first name.
- Review policy regarding hours, lunch, breaks, smoking, parking, phone calls, etc.
- Show the temporary their work area and the location of restrooms, lunchroom, mailroom, supply room, office equipment, etc., as appropriate.
- Review the Job Description with the temporary and explain how the work will be prioritized and distributed.
- Discuss with the temporary by whom and when the timesheet will be signed. It is very important that the temporary obtain a signed timesheet on Friday, or earlier if the assignment ends during the week.
- If there is a specific way you want things to be done, provide samples/examples.
- Provide a list of frequently used acronyms/buzz words and their meanings.
- Be sure the temporary has all the "tools" or materials necessary to perform the job. Review procedures for obtaining supplies.
- If you use temporary help on a regular basis or if there are others in your organization authorized to coordinate temporary help, you may want to develop an outline of office procedures, work examples, etc. It will help the temporary become productive immediately. - Provide a signed timesheet every Friday or upon completion of the assignment, whichever comes first. It is the temporary's responsibility to promptly send the timesheet to UNITEMP's Payroll Department.
